It’s Auckland Pride season! The D*List has curated a list of accessible, joyful events happening throughout February to enjoy. Happy Pride!

  • Soft Sensory Reset (with Messy Rainbows)

    When: 3–24 Feb
    Where: Corban Estate Arts Centre, Te Manawa, Te Atatū Peninsula Community Hub, Rānui Library
    Cost: Free

    With all the exciting kaupapa on throughout Auckland Pride, you may want a space to breathe, regulate and relax. Soft Sensory Reset is a neurodivergent-friendly space with dim lighting, soft background noise as well as various stations with fidget trays, gentle tactile materials and more.

    Q Total Body w/ Radiqal Movement

    When: 1 Feb
    Where: The Y Auckland, Auckland Central
    Cost: $10

    Get your blood pumping at Q Total Body with Radiqal Movement. This fitness class is 45-minutes long, facilitated by queer instructors and features a circuit of stations with different exercises (dumbbells, medicine balls and other weighted tools). Your instructors have options for adapting exercises to your pace and access needs.

    The Quiet Chaos Club

    When: 22 Feb
    Where: Studio One Toi Tū, Grey Lynn
    Cost: Free

    Bring along a “side quest” or small project you’re working on to The Quiet Chaos Club, a gathering for neurodivergent and disabled folks who want connection without pressure. In the soft lighting space, you are free to stim and move around. Conversations are optional and participation welcome but not necessary.There’s also an online option for those who can’t join in-person. Studio One Toi Tū is a wheelchair accessible venue.

    Braid + Paint with Marydahfairy

    When: 28 Feb
    Where: Onehunga Community Centre
    Cost: Free

    Take some time for reflection and connection to close Pride Month with softness. In this Braid + Paint class, learn a simple braiding technique and weave it onto canvas. This low-sensory creative workshop is for teens and adults and the event registration link allows you to submit access needs. Onehunga Community Centre has an accessible toilet with lift and ramp access.

    Queer Speed Dating: Booklovers Edition

    When: 14 Feb and 20 Feb
    Where: Te Atatū Peninsula Library and New Lynn Library 
    Cost: Free

    Meet potential lovers or new friends over a shared love of books at Queer Speed Dating: Booklovers Edition. Across two events, these events are designed with a relaxed and friendly vibe. Queer Speed Dating is open to all genders and sexualities for folks aged 18+, with free drinks and snacks. Te Atatū Peninsula Library has ramp access, and New Lynn Library has wheelchair access and accessible toilets. This is a free event but spaces are limited, so booking is required to secure your spot!     Hugo’s Rainbow Show

    When: 14 Feb
    Where: TAPAC
    Cost: $15

    Drag King Hugo Grrrl presents Hugo’s Rainbow Show, a musical about all the mysteries up in the skies. Through science and music, you’ll learn about meteorology, the sun, the clouds, and of course rainbows. The show has been designed for kids two to ten years old, and neurodivergent whānau. TAPAC is a wheelchair accessible venue with accessible car parks, ramp access and accessible toilets.

    Events with The D*List & Friends

    These events are free and for all disabled and rainbow community members. Please email events@thedlist.co.nz to confirm a spot so we can make sure we have enough kai and access needs covered! 

    Decorate your Mobility Aid with DQA

    When: 15 Feb
    Where: The D*List Community Hub, Kingsland
    Cost: Free

    Bedazzle your mobility aid (or your mask!) with Disabled Queer Alliance. We'll have some crafty supplies and a relaxed, accessible space at The D*List Community Hub. Open to everyone - masks are available if you don't have your own. In order to protect our community, we ask that you please wear a mask while attending this event if it is accessible for you to do so.

    Embroidery for Crafty Queers

    When: 21 Feb
    Where: The D*List Community Hub, Kingsland
    Cost: Free

    Learn to embroider with fellow queers from your tutor Von. In this three-hour workshop you will create a patch as an expression of what pride means for you. As an introduction to embroidery, you will learn hand sewing hacks and basic stitch techniques. To personalise your pride patch, you will then embroider your choice of text, symbols or illustration.

    Bookish Ceremony: queer disabled edition

    When: 23 Feb
    Where: Electric Ceremony, Newmarket
    Cost: Free

    Your favourite local queer book club, Bookish Ceremony, is connecting with The D*List for a special queer disabled edition. Kōrero about books and connect with like minded folks! The book pick will be announced in January on Instagram @bookish.ceremony

    Q Mobility - Sensory Ease

    When: 3 Feb
    Where: The D*List Community Hub, Kingsland
    Cost: $10

    Hosted by Radiqal, this sensory ease class is designed for gentle, mobility-focused bodyweight movement in a flexible and pressure-free space. The class will include a 5-min warm up, 35 minutes of mobility exercises and a 5-min cool down session. Sensory tools and aids welcome. Book this class via the Radiqal website here.
